Hi, I'm Rian.
I'm a self-taught designer from Depok, Indonesia. I studied accounting, spent twelve years in finance at Standard Chartered, and kept designing on the side the whole time. Kertascraft was one of those side things, and the one I'm still proudest of.
How Kertascraft started
One week of 3D, then a city in paper.
In 2009 I joined Paper Replika Indonesia, a community of local papercraft designers, and learned 3ds Max from its founder, Julius Perdana. I wanted to model the things I passed every day: the orange mailbox, the school bus, the Kopaja rattling down Margonda.
Over the next five years the collection grew to eighteen models. The school bus ended up in a video for the MTV Indonesia Awards in 2009, the models were shown at IDS Creative Festival in 2010, and in 2014 Daihatsu Indonesia asked me to design papercraft cars for its expo booth in Bandung.
Simple low-poly shapes, so every face can become paper.
The 3D model is flattened into parts with folds and glue tabs.
Textures, signage and details, laid out on A4 sheets.
What I do now
Fonts, templates, and still paper.
An independent type foundry from Depok. 475+ fonts, mostly scripts and signatures, licensed by designers and brands around the world.
The studio behind my design templates and graphic assets, sold on Envato, Creative Market and Canva, and the home of Creatype.
Timeline
- 1996 Starts designing in high school, laying out the school wall magazine on a Pentium 1.
- 2003 Joins Standard Chartered in finance. Designs at night and on weekends.
- 2009 Learns 3D and launches Kertascraft. The school bus ends up in an MTV Indonesia Awards video.
- 2014 Founds Rahardi Creative.
- 2015 Leaves Standard Chartered to design full time.
- 2018 Releases a first font and starts Creatype Studio.
- 2026 Brings Kertascraft back.
